BRAW LADDIES AMIDST THE CLASH OF THE EMPIRES
13
As the casualty
lists started
appearing in
the Edinburgh
newspapers,
families all
across the central
belt were left to
mourn the loss
of young lives.
In the battle on 12th July there were almost
100 Hawick men killed. Most of these
disappeared without trace. Andrew Riddell
was wounded and died shortly after. He was
one of the few from Hawick who was buried
in a marked grave. Husband and Father, he
was just 28 years old.
